A personal AI appliance should feel boring

The most successful personal-computing infrastructure is usually the infrastructure people stop thinking about. It updates, stays available, uses the right resources, and fails in understandable ways.

I think personal AI will need the same discipline. A nontechnical user should not have to become an expert in models, context windows, quantization, or memory allocation.

The sophistication should live inside the product. The experience should be that the system is present, private where it needs to be, and capable enough to help.

In this case, boring is not a lack of ambition. It is what technical maturity feels like from the outside.
